Accredited CSO
The UNCCD COP recognizes that the involvement and participation of the civil society is vital to the successful implementation of this Convention. It therefore welcomes the contribution of CSOs, with particular regard to non-governmental organizations (NGOs), to the official meetings of the UNCCD.
Representatives from CSOs that are accredited to the COP may directly participate in the UNCCD secretariat’s sessions. At these sessions CSOs are consulted on United Nation’s policy and programme matters. They also play key roles at major United Nations conferences as indispensable partners for efforts at the country level. Below are the current accredited CSO's to the Convention.
Strategic Objectives: Foster innovative improvements to renewable energy, safety technologies, safety culture, and environmental protection systems associated with waste management, offshore oil and gas development purposeful to address climate change and To participate in different development process that aims to improve socioeconomic livelihood of the poor household’s communities by improving agriculture and livestock husbandry.
Since 2012, we have been carrying out extensive dry forest restoration operations in two degraded areas in the southwest of the Dominican Rep. The degradation is due to charcoal production, highly aggressive exotic plants, and overgrazing. We have worked with the government and producers to reduce these threats, but we have a lot of work to do to help these areas recover from decades of unsustainable use. That is why in these landscapes, we are planting native locally adapted dry forest trees.
SOS Biodiversity promotes sustainable land management, ecological restoration, and biodiversity conservation in Benin. Its activities include native tree planting, seed valorization, agroecological training, and community engagement to combat land degradation and desertification. The organization empowers women and youth through nature-based solutions and contributes to national and global biodiversity data platforms.
Implements WASH, develops alternative energy solutions and builds local capacities through participatory planning, training and knowledge management. IDS-Nepal's activities align closely with the UNCCD 2018-2030 Strategic Framework, which promotes sustainable land management, drought resilience and land degradation neutrality through Sustainable Land Management, Drought Resilience and Water Efficiency, Empowering Vulnerable populations and Global Environmental Benefits.
Mount Elgon Ecosystem Conservation Trust (MEECT) works to strengthen community participation in sustainable land management and forest conservation within the Mt. Elgon landscape. Through collaboration with local associations and government agencies, MEECT supports inclusive approaches to restore degraded ecosystems, enhance climate resilience, and promote equitable livelihood opportunities.
Save the poor foundation (SAPOF) implemented a project with aim to protect and preserve natural resources thus safeguarding mountains and rivers in the township of Ndirande in Blantyre districts for future generations. The project targeted farmers who cultivate in Ndirande hill, women who use Nansolo river for washing and even same of the women as their dust bin for the baby diapers and youth for the importance of preserving environmemnt for future generation
Vision: A nation with decent, affordable and sustainable Human settlements for all Mission: To promote growth of human settlement sector through policy engagement, access to housing, basic service delivery and environmental conservation that benefits poor women, men and youth in Uganda. The third outcome of SSA- : Enhanced awareness and articulation of evidence based urbanization information outlines activities like eco- friendly demonstration of building materials and circular economy.
The Biodiversity Rescue Club aims to achieve land degradation neutrality through active restoration and sustainable management of ecosystems, particularly focusing on endangered species. We also aim to educate and mobilize youth and the wider community to take action against biodiversity loss and adapt to climate change realities. Our key activities include direct restoration projects (e.g., mangrove restoration), advocacy, and education for biodiversity conservation.
SITTY (Stay In True To Yourself) is a registered platform empowering communities through storytelling, dialogue, and grassroots action. Its initiative, Voices of Change, restores degraded ecosystems like Kenya’s Manguo Wetlands, trains youth and women in climate stewardship, and promotes equity through advocacy and innovation. We blend tradition and tech to foster resilience and align with UNCCD goals on land restoration and community empowerment.
EPENA œuvre pour la promotion de la durabilité environnementale et de la résilience face à la désertification en Afrique. L'organisation mène des projets de gestion durable des ressources naturelles, de reboisement et d'adaptation au changement climatique, tout en intégrant la paix et la justice sociale dans ses interventions. Elle soutient les communautés vulnérables en renforçant leurs capacités de gestion des terres et de prévention des conflits liés aux ressources naturelles.
