The commemoration of the International Day of Combating Sand and Dust Storms will take place at United Nations Headquarters in New York under the theme “From Source to Impact: Protecting Land and Life from Sand and Dust Storms.” The event will bring together Member States, United Nations entities, regional and international organizations and stakeholders to exchange experiences and discuss practical actions to address the root causes and far-reaching impacts of sand and dust storms. Discussions will focus on implementation of relevant UN resolutions and the UN Decade on Combating Sand and Dust Storms, with attention to early warning systems, sustainable land management, scientific cooperation, capacity-building and support for affected countries.
