The International Conferences on Climate and Development (ICID) were developed to strengthen discussions on the sustainable development of global drylands. In light of Brazil’s decision to host the 30th Conference of the Parties (COP 30) of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in the city of Belém, state of Pará, from November 10 to 21, 2025, and considering the disproportionate impact of climate change on arid, semi-arid and sub-humid regions of the globe, a group of institutions from Brazil and other countries decided to organize the 3rd International Conference on Climate and Development in Arid, Semi-Arid and Dry Sub-Humid Regions (ICID III). The conference aims to strengthen and expand discussions on the impacts of climate change on the sustainable development of global drylands within the framework of COP 30 of the UNFCCC. More info.

The European Association of Agricultural Economists (EAAE) brings together agricultural economists and other scientists interested in the challenges of the agricultural and food industries and rural development in Europe and beyond. The main objectives of the Association are: to promote the knowledge and understanding of agricultural economics, especially in the European context, and to promote the exchange of ideas, methodologies and results between agricultural economists.To commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Association, the EAAE Congress will take place in Bonn in 2025 and is expected to bring together between 700 and 1000 scientists, experts, stakeholders and policy makers from all over the world to discuss the most topical and pressing issues facing the agri-food sector.In its plenary sessions, the Bonn 2025 Congress will focus on the generally acknowledged need for food system transformation to achieve global sustainability goals. There will be an emphasis on how agricultural economics can assist the agrifood system in rising to the challenges posed by conflicting and competing interests. It will provide a foundation for long-term collaboration in research and teaching and a platform to initiate and foster a meaningful impact for the discipline. More info.

Water plays a pivotal role in global efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and to build resilience safeguarding ecosystems and communities. World Water Week 2025 will focus on addressing the linked emergencies of climate change, environment degradation and biodiversity loss, emphasizing both mitigation and adaptation, alongside the broader goal of enhancing resilience. Join us on 28 August for the side event :Accelerating Drought Resilience in a Changing Climate" from 14:00 to 15:30 at A4 Level 6 session ID 12304. Organized by The Nature Conservancy, Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH (GIZ) and the UNCCD.This session will explore the building blocks to accelerating drought resilience, including policy, funding, tools and technology, building awareness on the need to adopt bottom-up approaches in drought risk mitigation. Presenters will share outcomes of the UNCCD COP16 and opportunities for engagement between now and UNCCD COP17 in Mongolia in 2026.

The UNCCD, together with UNU-EHS, UNDP and UNEP, is organizing a session on "Promoting synergies between Land Degradation Neutrality and climate change adaptation," aligned with the launch of the LDN NAPs guidance publication, at the NAP Expo 2025. The NAP Expo is an annual outreach event organized by the Least Developed Countries Expert Group (LEG) under the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, in collaboration with various bodies and organizations, to promote exchange of experiences and foster partnerships between a wide range of actors and stakeholders on how to advance National Adaptation Plans (NAPs).The overall objective of the NAP Expo is to raise adaptation ambition by advancing the formulation and implementation of NAPs. Specific objectives include:To facilitate the interaction between country NAP teams and providers of support, including the GCF, GEF and AF, as well as bilateral agencies and other relevant organizations, to enhance access to financing for NAPs;To create an interactive global forum on NAPs for countries to share experience, best practices and lessons learned; different organizations and bodies to conduct specialized meetings and workshops; and for Parties and non-Party stakeholders to interact, in advancing the formulation and implementation of NAPs;To serve as the global platform to advance technical and practical measures towards the production of first NAPs as soon as possible and their effective implementation.This is the tenth global NAP Expo since 2013.
