FAO Session on sustainable soil and land management will take place in Ankara, Türkiye, on the occasion of the International Congress on "Successful Transformation toward Land Degradation Neutrality: Future Perspective." Event agenda

Theme: "Let’s grow the future together"Out of concern that “desertification and drought are problems of global dimension in that they affect all regions of the world,” the international community adopted the Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) in Paris on 17 June 1994.On the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the Convention and the World Day to Combat Desertification in 2019 (#2019WDCD), we celebrated the 25 years of progress made by countries on sustainable land management. At the same time, we looked at the broad picture of the next 25 years where we will achieve land degradation neutrality. The International congress on "Successful Transformation toward Land Degradation Neutrality: Future Perspective" will take place on 17–19 June, 2019 in Ankara, Türkiye, marking the twenty-fifth anniversary of UNCCD. The forum will bring together senior scientists, academicians, experts, policy makers, young researchers and students from national and international institutions to analyze the current and future trends of soil and land resources, establish new policies based on the principles of land degradation neutrality and create a universal message for the sustainable use of soil and land resources. The main topics will include: Successful transformation of agricultural sector for LDN: focusing to enhance the soil health in the food production chain Successful transformation of forest sector for LDN: focus on preventing forest loss Integrated planning approaches for sustainable use of land/soil resource Unlocking the investment for LDN Role of gender in LDN to achieve the SDGs Sustainable value chains for land degradation neutrality The congress will also invite young scientists to take part in the Youth Forum on “Land Degradation Neutrality from Local to Global Scale.” More about the event here.

The symposium is co-organized by the China National Sand Control and Desert Industry Society, the Department of Forestry and Grasslands of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region and the Inner Mongolia Agriculture University, and is jointly supported by the National Forestry and Grassland Administration, the People’s Government of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region and the China Green Foundation. The objectives of the symposium: evaluate the impact of desertification and land degradation in the context of global climate change share the research progress on global conservation and restoration as well as the sustainable land management technologies and practices explore way to adapt science and research  to the needs of sustainable development strengthen the development and the exchange of top professional talent for developing solutions for desertification and land degradation as well as ecological sustainability. The symposium is calling for papers on these subjects. The selected papers will be distributed and shared with the participants.
