Civil society organizations
The UNCCD COP recognizes that the involvement and participation of the civil society is vital to the successful implementation of this Convention. It therefore welcomes the contribution of CSOs, with particular regard to non-governmental organizations (NGOs), to the official meetings of the UNCCD.
Representatives from CSOs that are accredited to the COP may directly participate in the UNCCD secretariat’s sessions. At these sessions CSOs are consulted on United Nation’s policy and programme matters. They also play key roles at major United Nations conferences as indispensable partners for efforts at the country level. Below are the current accredited CSO's to the Convention.
Alight, founded in 1978 as the American Refugee Committee, co-creates with displaced communities using a human-centered design approach. For over two decades in Pakistan, Alight has empowered marginalized communities through emergency response, clean water and sanitation, education, healthcare, and livelihoods. From earthquakes to major floods, Alight builds lasting community resilience and sustainable recovery.
PabioStone Foundation promotes sustainable land management, climate-smart agriculture, and renewable energy solutions to combat desertification and land degradation. Our initiatives focus on soil restoration, community resilience, and eco-innovation, empowering smallholders through training, green technology adoption, and sustainable livelihood projects aligned with UNCCD’s land neutrality and resilience goals.
Leadership Watch (LW) is a non-governmental organization in special consultative status with the economic and social council of the United Nations. Our aims are to hold leaders accountable, strengthen their competencies and enhance their skills to effectively delivery on the expectations and priorities of the people in a globalizing world. Leadership Watch activities includes the promotion of democracy, good governance, climate change and sustainable development
L’Union des Agriculteurs de Fizi (UAFI), créée en 1988 au Sud-Kivu (RDC), œuvre pour le développement socio-économique et le bien-être des communautés rurales. Elle agit dans l’agriculture, l’élevage, l’environnement, la santé, l’autonomisation des femmes et des jeunes, la promotion des technologies artisanales et l’appui aux victimes de violences sexuelles et aux enfants vulnérables.
HOPE Worldwide-Pakistan works to strengthen climate resilience, sustainable land use, and community livelihoods. We support vulnerable and displaced populations through climate-smart agriculture, reforestation, soil and water conservation, disaster risk reduction, and environmental education. Our initiatives contribute to achieving Land Degradation Neutrality, restoring ecosystems, and advancing SDG 15 in Pakistan and New Zealand.
The Fundación Guanacas Bosques de Niebla has spent 35 years conserving and restoring High Andean forests in Antioquia, Colombia. It safeguards biodiversity, especially the flora, fauna, and water sources, through research, ecosystem restoration, and ecotourism. Its goal is to protect the environment and raise environmental awareness by promoting harmony between humans and nature for a sustainable future.
Rural Development Organization (RDO) is a non-profit NGO in Pakistan working to promote sustainable land management, rural development, and climate resilience. Through community empowerment, reforestation, capacity building, and livelihood projects, RDO supports poverty reduction, soil conservation, and sustainable use of natural resources in alignment with the UNCCD goals.
Tree of Humanity for All (TOHFA) works to combat desertification, land degradation, and the impacts of climate change through community-led environmental action. Its initiatives include reforestation, soil restoration, sustainable farming training, and disaster risk reduction in Pakistan and New Zealand, empowering vulnerable communities to build resilience and promote sustainable land use.
The association is active in the following areas: Community planning; Environmental management & sustainable management of natural resources and land: issues of land grabbing and community rights, water and sanitation issues, biodiversity protection, responsible agriculture and sustainable livestock farming; Risk and disaster management; Citizenship education and training: Education in eco-citizenship, promotion of leadership and eco-entrepreneurship among girls and women; sport
VISION: The Main aim of the organization is to empower the women, children and backward communities in the society by finding the right path through economic, social, political and human development to achieve their rights and entitlements, especially Dalit Women. MISION: Creating and strengthening community-based organizations to create a platform for bachward communities, especially dalit women.
