Accredited CSO
The UNCCD COP recognizes that the involvement and participation of the civil society is vital to the successful implementation of this Convention. It therefore welcomes the contribution of CSOs, with particular regard to non-governmental organizations (NGOs), to the official meetings of the UNCCD.
Representatives from CSOs that are accredited to the COP may directly participate in the UNCCD secretariat’s sessions. At these sessions CSOs are consulted on United Nation’s policy and programme matters. They also play key roles at major United Nations conferences as indispensable partners for efforts at the country level. Below are the current accredited CSO's to the Convention.
PACJA works to advance people-centred, equity-based, and justice-oriented approaches to climate justice in Africa, focusing on climate adaptation, sustainable land and natural-resource management, and rights of vulnerable communities. It conducts evidence-based advocacy on climate justice. It builds capacity of grassroots and civil-society actors to engage in climate resilience processes and mobilizes partnerships across community, government, and regional bodies to influence climate action.
CBI’s expertise in remote sensing, spatial analysis and decision-support tools contribute to preserving and restoring land; improving soil health and groundwater recharge; and enhancing habitat connectivity at local, regional and global scales. Intense wildfire events are a common precursor to land degradation and desertification. The Global Wildfire Collective, a flagship CBI initiative, is creating resilience and recovery strategies that maximize well-being in ecological and social systems.
MOLDEV is a non-profit organization committed to empowering communities through sustainable development interventions. Thematic areas - Leadership and Good Governance Program Promotes transparency, accountability, inclusion, and participatory decision-making as the foundation for a thriving and equitable society through sustainable livelihoods. Preventive Health focuses on disease prevention, health education, and wellness promotion to strengthen community health systems and resilience.
C2ES has long been recognized in the United States and abroad as an influential and pragmatic voice on climate issues. An independent nonprofit organization, C2ES: (i) forges practical and innovative solutions to address climate change; (ii) engages with and convenes key stakeholders to accelerate climate progress; and (iii) produces high-quality research on climate change policy, both within the United States and internationally.
The organization aims to providing education on the proper use of land, afforestation, forestry, agriculture and food security. In west Africa there has been a consistence misuse of land and improper agriculture farming and this has resulted in deforestation and desertification. Due to lack of financing for proper and modernised agriculture farming many farmers have sold their lands to illegal mining companies. We recently embarked on public education about the proper use of lands.
We work with forest dependent communities, and vulnerable groups who are directly impacted by unsustainable environmental practices like unregulated logging, industrial tree plantations, construction of dams and super highways, oil pipeline right of way, forest fires, and the new eco-business called REDD. This invasion of community territories also have serious impacts on biological diversity. We support forest peoples’ struggles to defend their lands and livelihoods.
We focuses on several thematic areas, including Climate Change and Disaster Risk Reduction, Sustainable Agriculture & Food Security, Biodiversity Conservation, Youth Leadership and Development, and Renewable Energy. We also provide consultancy on environmental and social impact assessments. Through our work, we create awareness about Climate Mitigation and Adaptation, Food Security, and Sustainable Development.
The Arab Office for Youth and Environment (AOYE) works to combat desertification, land degradation, and drought through community-based projects, sustainable land management, and climate change adaptation. Since 1978, AOYE has empowered youth, enhanced environmental awareness, and built resilience in vulnerable areas across Egypt and the Arab region, fostering partnerships aligned with UNCCD objectives
HEIORG has engaged in the issues central to the UNCCD's mandate, with a proven track record in combating desertification and environmental degradation through: National Action: We actively participate in West African Countries processes for developing and implementing its National Action Programme. Community Empowerment and Livelihoods: Our approach prioritizes building the capacity of the most vulnerable populations.
Agenda for Relief and Development Initiative – South Sudan (ARDI-SS) works to combat land degradation, enhance climate resilience, and promote sustainable livelihoods through community-led natural resource management, reforestation, soil and water conservation, and climate-smart agriculture initiatives aligned with the UNCCD’s goals for land restoration and sustainable development.
