Civil society organizations
The UNCCD COP recognizes that the involvement and participation of the civil society is vital to the successful implementation of this Convention. It therefore welcomes the contribution of CSOs, with particular regard to non-governmental organizations (NGOs), to the official meetings of the UNCCD.
Representatives from CSOs that are accredited to the COP may directly participate in the UNCCD secretariat’s sessions. At these sessions CSOs are consulted on United Nation’s policy and programme matters. They also play key roles at major United Nations conferences as indispensable partners for efforts at the country level. Below are the current accredited CSO's to the Convention.
People, Food and Land Foundation advances sustainable land management, soil health, food security, climate resilience, and restoration of working lands. PFL coordinates partnerships, tools, finance, and field projects that prevent soil degradation, restore ecosystem function, strengthen rural and agricultural communities, and support land-based adaptation, mitigation, and Rio Convention synergy.
The National Drought Mitigation Center’s mission is to reduce the effects of drought on people, the environment and the economy by researching the science of drought monitoring and the practice of drought planning and integrated drought risk management. We collaborate with and learn from decision-makers at all levels – individual producers/ranchers, communities, regions, watersheds, tribes, states, countries – across the US and around the world in order to build resilience to drought .
BCM is Mongolia's principal private sector voice, representing 150+ member companies. We mobilize business engagement on land restoration and desertification through the Business4Land initiative, the National Green Lab green project pipeline, and structured mining sector dialogues. As co-organizer of key COP17 events, BCM bridges Mongolia's private sector with the UNCCD framework to translate commitments into concrete, financeable action.
The Public Lands Council (PLC) is a United States trade association that represents cattle and sheep producers who utilize grazing lands owned or managed by U.S. government land management agencies through national policy (legislation, regulation, and litigation) while building networks for research and capacity-building around: rangeland health, disaster mitigation, land conversion, watershed health, wildlife-livestock management, pastoral communities, rural economic sustainability.
ACES combines teaching, research, and extension and outreach to positively impact the citizens of New Mexico, USA, and elsewhere. Much of our work focuses on the sustainability of dryland agroecosystems and improving the quality of life for dryland communities. Aces is a leader in education and research on wind erosion, rangeland science and management, dryland agriculture, soils, and dryland plant and environmental sciences.
