The UNCCD COP recognizes that the involvement and participation of the civil society is vital to the successful implementation of this Convention. It therefore welcomes the contribution of CSOs, with particular regard to non-governmental organizations (NGOs), to the official meetings of the UNCCD.

Representatives from CSOs that are accredited to the COP may directly participate in the UNCCD secretariat’s sessions. At these sessions CSOs are consulted on United Nation’s policy and programme matters. They also play key roles at major United Nations conferences as indispensable partners for efforts at the country level. Below are the current accredited CSO's to the Convention.

Grameena Vikas Samithi

Participates in a bilateral project implementing a participatory technology development process for integrated farming on drylands. Works at the grass-roots level implementing anti-desertification activities. Assists local farmers, self-help groups and women with micro credit. Promotes voluntary efforts in rural development through the building up of local institutions and training of workers. Undertakes land development programmes such as afforestation and soil and water management.

Organizes discussion panels on environmental issues such as water supply, land degradation and desertification. Collaborates with the governmental focal point in the implementation of the National Action Programme. Formulates studies of the biophysical and socioeconomic characteristics of drylands in order to identify environmental benchmarks and indicators. Participates in the preparation, evaluation and monitoring of the national action programme. Organizes regional and local workshops on UNCCDrelated issues. Promotes the transfer of technology in sustainable production so as to ensure food security. Carries out consultancies on the use of organic fertilizers and the establishment, management and use of forests and reforestation.

Promotes cultural initiatives to raise awareness on the problems of African countries.  Organizes labor camps and spreads forms of responsible tourism. Promotes and organizes fundraisers and cultural events. Supports projects in favor of disadvantaged populations worldwide. Attends communities that intend to face problems of education and rehabilitation of the needy children through adoption programs.
