This is a working paper by the ELD initiative under the Global Land Outlook 3 currently developed by the UNCCD Science-Policy Interface. It will also serve as the basis for a GLO3 chapter on “Financing Land: Transformative Pathways to Resilient Futures”. 

This working paper synthesizes scientific and other knowledge through selected case study examples from around the world. It applies a systems transformation perspective to the role and impact of finance and financial mechanisms in preventing land degradation (phasing out) and accelerating land restoration and resilience (phasing in).
