Birguy Lamizana Diallo
With over 30 years of experience in environmental services institutions, Dr. Lamizana Diallo is a versatile development professional. Her expertise spans sustainable development, environmental issues, water quality, biodiversity, and environmental impact assessment, combined with extensive experience in community and social services. She holds an Engineer degree in Water Resources Management and a PhD in Freshwater Ecology.
Previously, Dr. Lamizana Diallo served as the leader of the Sahel Project and Initiatives, the Great Green Wall Accelerator for the Sahara and the Sahel (GGW), and the MENA region at the Global Mechanism of the UNCCD since April 2021. Before joining UNCCD, she worked for UNEP, serving as a Technical Adviser for the restoration of the Faguibine Lake in Mali and later managing UNEP's Wastewater portfolio within the Global Programme of Action for the Protection of marine environment from land-based activities (GPA). Her extensive career also includes roles with IUCN, Global Water Partnership and the African Development Bank (AfDB). Dr. Lamizana Diallo is recognized as an Emeritus member of the Commission of Ecosystem Management of IUCN, where she served for 8 years in its steering committee, overseeing Wetlands, drylands, and urban ecosystems. Additionally, she is a fellow Melvin Jones Companion at Lions Club International.
