Hyunyoung Yang
Dr. Yang is a forest ecology researcher focused on sustainable socio-ecological complex systems. She is currently a postdoctoral researcher at the National Institute of Forest Science in Seoul, South Korea, where she studies both tropical peat swamp forest restoration in Indonesia and temperate forest’s ecosystem integrity assessment in South Korea. Her work includes assessing restoration tree species’ flooding tolerance, evaluating carbon storage pre- and post-restoration, analyzing carbon dioxide and methane exchange across restoration methods, and interpreting dynamics of forest ecosystem’s state based on structure, function (carbon, water, and energy cycles), and composition in forests.
Driven by the urgent need to address degradation of tropical peat swamp forest from fires and drainage and degradation of temperate forest from climate change, Dr. Yang is committed to restoring tropical peat swamp forests, managing temperate forests, and advancing sustainable land use.
