Ingrid Teich
Dr. Ingrid Teich is Senior Research Scientist at the Centre for Development and Environment of the University of Bern, Switzerland, where she leads work on SDG target 15.3 implementation within the WOCAT Secretariat. Born in Argentina, she studied biology at the University of Buenos Aires, earning MSc and PhD degrees in Biological Sciences. She completed postdoctoral research in applied spatial statistics at the National University of Córdoba and has held positions as research scientist at Argentina’s National Agricultural Technology Institute and as professor of biostatistics at the Catholic University of Córdoba.
Her academic background spans molecular genetics, biodiversity research, ecology and remote sensing, supporting an integrative, systems-based approach to environmental management. She is an international expert in spatial statistics, land condition monitoring and indicator development with a focus on land degradation neutrality under the UNCCD framework. She leads the Decision Support Working Group of GEO-LDN and has supported more than 30 countries in designing monitoring systems, setting national LDN targets and aligning national reporting with global frameworks.
Dr. Teich works at the interface of science, policy and implementation with strong collaboration with UN agencies such as FAO and UNDP and advisory roles to donor organizations. She is committed to fostering synergies across disciplines and sectors and to promoting inclusive processes that value local knowledge, strengthen country ownership and advance open science. She has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications, assessments and technical guidelines to support evidence-based decision-making in land restoration and biodiversity conservation.
