Tashi Wangdi
Mr. Tashi Wangdi is Program Director of the National Soil Services Centre under the Department of Agriculture of the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock of the Royal Government of Bhutan. The Centre is the national referral institution mandated to lead and coordinate research and development on sustainable soil and land resources management.
From 2017 to 2018 he was Chief of the Agriculture Production Division at the Department of Agriculture where he oversaw policy development and commodity programmes through improved coordination, collaboration and extension services. He has also served as Project Director for several donor-funded initiatives including the World Bank–GEF funded Sustainable Land Management Project (2009–2012), the IFAD-funded Market Access and Growth Intensification Project and the Commercial Agriculture and Resilient Livelihood Program (2015–2017). Earlier he worked as Agriculture Extension Officer and District Agriculture Officer in Zhemgang, Sarpang and Punakha districts for more than a decade.
Mr. Wangdi is the National Focal Point to the UNCCD and currently Chair of the Asia-Pacific Region of the Convention. In this role he has led delegations to COP15 in Abidjan and COP16 in Riyadh and coordinated the preparation of the 2022 national report as well as the documentation of Bhutan’s SLM best practices for the global WOCAT database. He holds a Master of Science and Postgraduate Diploma in Agriculture from the University of Melbourne and a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture from the University of Wales, Bangor.
