Rajeb Boulharouf

Mr. Rajeb Boulharouf went to primary and secondary school in several countries across Africa, South America and Europe and obtained his Baccalaureate in Lisbon, Portugal. After joining the Ecole Nationale d’Administration, he obtained his undergraduate diploma in public management and graduated in Diplomacy in 1987. From 1988 to 1991, he joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Algeria, first as Chief of Bureau for Multilateral Scientific and Technical Secretary and then as Delegate of Algeria to the Second Committee of the United Nations General Assembly.

In 1991, Mr. Boulharouf joined the United Nations Headquarters in New York as Adviser to the Special Representative of UNCED’s Secretary General and Principal Office for land resources and desertification. In 1999, Mr. Boulharouf joined the Permanent Secretariat of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification in Bonn, where he held several senior positions, including Coordinator of External Relations and Spokesperson, and the Chief of Staff of the Executive Secretary of the UNCCD. He currently holds the post of the Director of the New York Liaison Office.
