Description
KIS is restoring an fragment of Guam’s native limestone forest as a model of urban sustainable land management and community-based conservation. KIS stewards an 11-acre site that was degraded in the 1960s when an ancient forest on karst was bulldozed into a shallow stormwater basin. This restoration effort is critical for mitigating biodiversity loss, restoring degraded soil, and protecting aquifer recharge. At the same time, KIS is cultivating the next generation of native forest enthusiasts.
