Manuae is an uninhabited island 100km south-east of Aitutaki in the Cook Islands. All of our ancestors were removed from Manuae 200 years ago by the first Europeans. In 2022 the PMI established the MECT to represent the landowners’ interests in managing Manuae. Our priorities include constructing the essential infrastructure that would allow us to actively managing Manuae for biodiversity conservation and sustainable development, and to rebuild our social, cultural & economic self-sufficiency.
