Accredited CSO
The UNCCD COP recognizes that the involvement and participation of the civil society is vital to the successful implementation of this Convention. It therefore welcomes the contribution of CSOs, with particular regard to non-governmental organizations (NGOs), to the official meetings of the UNCCD.
Representatives from CSOs that are accredited to the COP may directly participate in the UNCCD secretariat’s sessions. At these sessions CSOs are consulted on United Nation’s policy and programme matters. They also play key roles at major United Nations conferences as indispensable partners for efforts at the country level. Below are the current accredited CSO's to the Convention.
Oxygen for Relief & Development (ORD) is a Yemeni NGO working to combat land degradation and desertification through sustainable agriculture, water management, reforestation, and community resilience projects. ORD empowers vulnerable communities by restoring degraded lands, promoting climate-smart farming, and raising awareness on sustainable natural resource use.
Sustainable Agroforestry Initiative (SAFI) is a not-profit organisation committed to facilitate socially responsive programmes for the responsible use of natural resources. SAFI promotes socially adaptive programmes that are responsive to people's and communities' aspirations, values and cultures. Our conservation programmes help with rural poverty reduction, improved livelihoods, and sustainable landscape management.
Desarrollo Rural de San Luis Potosí, A.C. promotes sustainable processes in rural and indigenous communities of San Luis Potosí, Mexico, through human capital development, productive value chains, agroecological management, and climate change adaptation. It fosters food security, social economy, and ecosystem conservation, strengthening socio-environmental resilience.
Silva is a non-profit organization located in Japan dedicated to forestry rehabilitation through ecological restoration, education and advocacy in partnership with local communities. Silva utilizes the field proven "Miyawaki Forest Method," developed by world known late botanist, Dr. Akira Miyawaki. This method accelerates forest regeneration 10 to 20 times faster using a dense-mixed planting method with plants grown from locally-sourced seedlings containing its original genes native region.
LAMACCA Vanuatu aims to build “vibrant eco-friendly and climate resilience communities with sustainable use of biodiversity and ecosystem services where everyone enjoys a pleasant & manageable natural resources.” Its primary objectives are to provide access to climate change adaptation and resilience activities to the underserve rural communities, and strengthen communities to restore, protect and conserve biodiversity and ecosystem services, including traditional and historical heritages.
Our primary themes are to Com-batting desertification involves sustainable land management, restoring degraded lands, and enhancing drought resilience to protect dry land ecosystems. Key strategies include reforestation and empowering local communities, especially women and youth, to improve livelihoods by restoring land productivity. These efforts align with the UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) process.
CERU advances climate justice through community-led land restoration, sustainable land use, agroforestry and riverbank conservation. We empower women, men, youth/adolescents/young people and displaced groups with climate-smart farming, cash-for-work and savings schemes while integrating SRHR, GBV mitigation, and collective care. CERU also drives gender-responsive policy advocacy, aligning community resilience with UNCCD goals.
CONNECT's mission is to secure connected and healthy ecosystems through an evidence based and integrated approach to wildlife conservation, community empowerment and sustainable resource management. This involves securing wildlife in and around protected areas, informing conservation interventions and measuring impact through targeted research and monitoring efforts and facilitating coexistence and sustainable resource management along protected area boundaries.
Dadugba Cooperative in Sierra Leone combats land degradation and poverty through sustainable, community-led initiatives. By promoting fair trade and climate-smart farming, it helps farmers earn a fair income while restoring soil health and biodiversity. This approach aligns with the UNCCD's goals of improving livelihoods and achieving land degradation neutrality. The cooperative's model empowers farmers, making them stewards of their land and contributing to long-term economic and environment.
Tanzania Biodiversity Organization (TBO) is a youth- and women-led NGO working to combat land degradation through ecosystem restoration, climate-smart agriculture, and community-driven sustainable land management. We empower farmers, pastoralists, youth, and women with training, advocacy, and innovation, aligning with UNCCD’s Land Degradation Neutrality targets to improve livelihoods and resilience.
