Civil society organizations
The UNCCD COP recognizes that the involvement and participation of the civil society is vital to the successful implementation of this Convention. It therefore welcomes the contribution of CSOs, with particular regard to non-governmental organizations (NGOs), to the official meetings of the UNCCD.
Representatives from CSOs that are accredited to the COP may directly participate in the UNCCD secretariat’s sessions. At these sessions CSOs are consulted on United Nation’s policy and programme matters. They also play key roles at major United Nations conferences as indispensable partners for efforts at the country level. Below are the current accredited CSO's to the Convention.

A non-profit advancing a One Health approach linking human, animal, and ecosystem health. Led by scientists, our work is grounded in research and evidence. We provide research, monitoring, and advisory services to reduce pasture degradation, desertification, and livestock disease risks, promoting sustainable pastoralism, soil health, and ecosystem balance aligned with UNCCD goals.
The Nia Tero Foundation is a philanthropic organization that directly supports Indigenous Peoples' guardianship and elevate the role and influence of Indigenous Peoples as essential to ensuring planetary health and habitability. With our partners we protect Indigenous spiritual traditions, ancestral ecological knowledge, and the cultural continuity of peoples whose identities are inseparable from their territories.
In the field of environment, water, animal, pasture plants, and air quality research is carried out in collaboration with herders.
We address groundwater depletion and land degradation in Mongolia’s Gobi region by strengthening community adaptive capacity. Our work includes training, public awareness, and research using scientific methods on sustainable water use and land management. We collaborate with government and international partners and share evidence-based findings with stakeholders to support informed decision-making.
We have more than 20 years of experience in urban sustainable development. Our vision is to work with urban stakeholders to create poetic human habitats. Our efforts have included promoting cases in combating desertification. We have promoted the green economy of the Kubuqi Desert in Inner Mongolia to global investors. As part of our seven-year publicity campaign about the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, we have introduced the Altyn Dala Conservation Initiative in Kazakhstan.
AF NGO advances UNCCD goals by combating desertification, land degradation, and ecosystem loss through afforestation, reforestation, sustainable land management, biodiversity conservation, and community empowerment. We have restored over 1,200 hectares in Armenia, strengthening climate resilience, soil health, and ecosystems. Through restoration, advocacy, education, and legal support, we promote sustainable livelihoods, land rights, and inclusive solutions for vulnerable communities.
Environmental Research Information and Study Center (ERISC) focuses on land restoration, research, and capacity building in Mongolia. Our aim is to achieve Land Degradation Neutrality (LDN) through forestation, sustainable water management, and public education. We bridge the gap between policy and local action by providing science-based training and implementing grassroots projects. Our work empowers communities to combat desertification and enhance resilience against drought.
The Mongolian Environmental Civil Council (MBOIZ) is an umbrella organization that brings together environmental NGOs, community groups, and researchers to combat desertification and land degradation. It promotes sustainable land management, supports herder participation, protects water and soil resources, and advances nature-based solutions aligned with UNCCD goals.
