Accredited CSO
The UNCCD COP recognizes that the involvement and participation of the civil society is vital to the successful implementation of this Convention. It therefore welcomes the contribution of CSOs, with particular regard to non-governmental organizations (NGOs), to the official meetings of the UNCCD.
Representatives from CSOs that are accredited to the COP may directly participate in the UNCCD secretariat’s sessions. At these sessions CSOs are consulted on United Nation’s policy and programme matters. They also play key roles at major United Nations conferences as indispensable partners for efforts at the country level. Below are the current accredited CSO's to the Convention.
Conducts scientific research on the degradation of the steppe landscape due to over-grazing. Encourages the community in tree planting activities and upkeep. Holds environmental education sessions and activities to create awareness on global ecological problems
Conducts research into land depletion, soil conservation measures and mitigating rural poverty
Aims to assist grass-root communities, especially women by organising information and education sessions on the problem of desertification using cassettes, videos and radio emissions. Promotes the use of technologies which assist the protection and regeneration of natural resources. Encourages the use of successful cultural techniques to combat desertification.
Organizes awareness-raising campaigns and meetings on ways of combating desertification and preventing environmental pollution. Undertakes Convention sensitization campaigns in the northern zone of Mauritania. Encourages the community to have a sense of responsibility towards the use of natural resources.
Promotes the establishment of tree plantations and participates in reforestation and market gardening activities. Organizes awareness events with the aim of controlling desertification and pollution. Combats the destruction of the savannah by collaborating with other organizations on the implementation of reforestation projects. Elaborates evaluation studies to promote the region socially and economically. Undertakes actions in collaboration with international partners to protect the environment against the effects of drought and desertification and to improve the living conditions of vulnerable communities. Follows and assists in the training of five cooperatives, particularly for women's development.
Enhances decision-making for sustainable development through research and training in Namibia’s land, water and energy sectors. Supports decision makers from communities to traditional and local authorities to the highest decision-making bodies and individuals in government and the private sector by developing, disseminating and implementing scientific, fact-based and analytical options. Undertakes research on biophysical, socioeconomic and alternative technologies. Promotes renewable energy and energy efficient technologies.
organizes information and awareness campaigns on the effects of desertification; carries out reforestation projects through the construction of tree plantations and awareness-raising seminars; supports the development of natural areas with management and supervision programmes; and establishes partnerships with other national and local NGOs.
Encourages the introduction of private forestry at village level including the rehabilitation and protection of crop soils. Promotes market gardening and greening areas through tree plantations. Together with environmental justice groups from poor and developing countries, Both ENDS works towards a sustainable, fair and inclusive world. We gather and share information about policy and investments that have a direct impact on people and their livelihood, we engage in joint advocacy, we stimulate the dialogue between stakeholders and we promote and support sustainable local alternatives.
