Accredited CSO
Civil society organizations
The UNCCD COP recognizes that the involvement and participation of the civil society is vital to the successful implementation of this Convention. It therefore welcomes the contribution of CSOs, with particular regard to non-governmental organizations (NGOs), to the official meetings of the UNCCD.
Representatives from CSOs that are accredited to the COP may directly participate in the UNCCD secretariat’s sessions. At these sessions CSOs are consulted on United Nation’s policy and programme matters. They also play key roles at major United Nations conferences as indispensable partners for efforts at the country level. Below are the current accredited CSO's to the Convention.
Does advanced work for international agencies, for example on global assessment of human induced soil degradation (GLASOD), World Atlas of Desertification, and World Soils and Terrain Digital Database (SOTER).
acts as a network for Norwegian based NGOs that are working in drylands in Africa; carries out studies in relation to development projects dealing with food security, and natural resource management in the drylands; holds seminars and workshops on sustainable development in these areas; and raises awareness among the Norwegian community on the UNCCD and on how DCG activities can be used in the follow-up to the Convention.
Acts as a facilitator, creating awareness amongst the rural communities to enable them to undertake their own development programmes. Conducts surveys to identify problems faced by the rural communities and thereafter assists them to formulate village development plans.
Implements poverty alleviation and population projects. Networks with national NGOs. Holds regular village-level for a as well as national seminars to enhance NGO educational and advocacy skills
Initiates support programmes for arid zone agribusiness; promotes rural entrepreneurship based on sustainable agriculture.
Coordinates the Latin American network on environmental law. Works with government offices to develop environmental legislation. Promotes rural development projects, working directly with local populations
Promotes agroforestry, sustainable agriculture and fishing technologies. Plans and implements integrated, community-based resource management. Disseminates information to NGOs int eh Philippines and Asia on the INCD process
Conducts national workshops on desertification issues in collaboration with interested national and international organizations
Conducts research on the following areas; the fertilization and conservation of soils; reforestation and the management of natural forests; agroforestry and ways to increase the value of uncultivated land. Supports rural populations in the production of seeds and soil conservation. Promotes initiatives for the exploitation of meteorological and marine data by agriculturalists and fishermen.
Carries out programmes and projects aiming towards a positive and viable economic and social development of local communities. Organizes a programme on the exchange of information and education on environmental issues, regarding which it has been developing subjects such as environmental education, management of natural resources and reforestation. Undertakes lobbying activities and promotes the sustainable and reasonable management of natural resources and the environment. Studies the possibili
