Accredited CSO
The UNCCD COP recognizes that the involvement and participation of the civil society is vital to the successful implementation of this Convention. It therefore welcomes the contribution of CSOs, with particular regard to non-governmental organizations (NGOs), to the official meetings of the UNCCD.
Representatives from CSOs that are accredited to the COP may directly participate in the UNCCD secretariat’s sessions. At these sessions CSOs are consulted on United Nation’s policy and programme matters. They also play key roles at major United Nations conferences as indispensable partners for efforts at the country level. Below are the current accredited CSO's to the Convention.
Guildance Community Development Foundation focuses on combating desertification and land degradation through community-based initiatives in Nigeria. Its aims include promoting sustainable land management, reforestation, and climate resilience. Activities cover environmental education, advocacy, tree planting, youth and women engagement, and partnerships that support the UNCCD objectives of land restoration and sustainable livelihoods.
Young Progress, founded in 2011, promotes youth social and economic inclusion by engaging them in natural resource management and supporting development and humanitarian initiatives. It operates through Development & Emergency Management and Environment branches, leveraging a multidisciplinary team of engineers, technicians, and social mobilizers to implement inclusive, partner-driven projects.
WTG has advanced watershed protection in Cameroon since 1997, partnering with HELVETAS, UNDP-GEF, BirdLife, IUCN NL, WWF USA, and UNEP. Achievements include biodiversity surveys leading to Kagwene Wildlife Sanctuary and Takamanda Park, RAMSAR advocacy, wetland and lake conservation, CSR with PECTEN & ADDAX, IWRM planning, community livelihood support, and restoring 350 ha of mangroves under CAMERR (2022–2026) and UNEP’s Generation Restoration with Douala IV council.
BirdLife South Africa wishes to see a country and region where nature and people live in greater harmony, more equitably and sustainably.BirdLife South Africa strives to conserve birds, their habitats and biodiversity through scientifically-based programmes, through supporting the sustainable and equitable use of natural resources and by encouraging people to enjoy and value nature.
Climate Hub Tanzania empowers youth and women to lead climate action, focusing on sustainable land management, ecosystem restoration, and resilience-building in vulnerable communities. Our activities include climate education, reforestation, clean energy solutions, and awareness campaigns, promoting land conservation, drought resilience, and sustainable livelihoods.
Green Canopy Enviro-care mobilises communities to take active roles in restoring ecological balance and avoiding land degradation. We influence policy and community practice to promote sustainable use of land, water, forests, and other natural resources and increase resilience of communities, especially youth, to climate change impacts including drought and desertification.
Grameena Vikas Kendram Society for Rural Development empowers smallholder and Indigenous farming communities in India to adopt climate-smart agroecological practices that restore soils, enhance biodiversity, conserve water, and revitalize degraded landscapes. Through grassroot capacity building, livelihood diversification, and equitable market linkages, GVK Society advances ecosystem and public health, climate resilience, and land degradation neutrality, creating thriving rural-economies.
Carbon Ethics Indonesia Foundation is an organization focusing on climate action to decelerate the climate crisis by promoting sustainable land management and rehabilitating degraded blue carbon ecosystems through community-based initiatives. We empower local communities with capacity-building to enhance their resilience to climate crises, aligning with UNCCD's goals of ecosystem restoration and adaptation. Our activities span from fieldwork and public awareness to research and development.
Biflores is a local biodiversity conservation association focused on the protection of terrestrial ecosystems of Brava, Cabo Verde. Our themes of work include Terrestrial Conservation (Sustainable Agriculture and Grazing, Invasive species management, Restoration, In-situ conservation of endemic species), Marine Conservation, Sustainable Development and Environmental Education. Cross cutting focus including adaptation and resilience of the primary sector to climate change impacts.
Wildlife Conservation Action is a Private Voluntary Organisation promoting human-wildlife coexistence in Zimbabwe. We strengthen community capacity to mitigate Human-Wildlife Conflict and support conservation through integrated approaches: deploying conflict mitigation strategies, restoring degraded landscapes via holistic grazing, identifying and monitoring corridors, and safeguarding livelihoods in the Mid Zambezi Valley.
