Civil society organizations
The UNCCD COP recognizes that the involvement and participation of the civil society is vital to the successful implementation of this Convention. It therefore welcomes the contribution of CSOs, with particular regard to non-governmental organizations (NGOs), to the official meetings of the UNCCD.
Representatives from CSOs that are accredited to the COP may directly participate in the UNCCD secretariat’s sessions. At these sessions CSOs are consulted on United Nation’s policy and programme matters. They also play key roles at major United Nations conferences as indispensable partners for efforts at the country level. Below are the current accredited CSO's to the Convention.
Primary theme: Sustainable agriculture, soil & water conservation, land restoration. We work with rural mother tongue agrarian communities in Rajasthan to restore soil health, promote natural farming, watershed management & groundwater conservation. By forming SHGs we link small farmers to banks, schemes & FPOs. Training materials in local languages are developed & used to build farmer skills in financial literacy, sustainable practices & income diversification through value additions.
SocieTree CIO restores degraded urban land by creating dense native micro forests in schools using the Miyawaki method. We rebuild soil health, boost biodiversity, cool heat stressed neighbourhoods, and engage children and communities in hands on stewardship. Our work supports Land Degradation Neutrality and SDGs 11, 13 and 15 through rapid ecosystem recovery, climate resilience and nature education, with monitoring of canopy, wildlife and soil.
Agrointroductions Ghana (AiG) is a non-profit environmental organization advancing sustainable land management, biodiversity conservation, and climate resilience in Ghana. Through agroforestry, community-led restoration, and advocacy, AiG empowers women, youth, and rural communities to combat land degradation and build sustainable livelihoods. Our work is national in scope, with current projects in Ashanti, Bono East, Northern, Upper West, Volta and Western regions.
Major work sectors of the organization are livelihood- agriculture land development - animal husbandry- natural resources management and micro finance. NGO is also intervening for removal of social evils- sanitation & hygiene education- qualitative drinking water- women’s empowerment- Panchayati Raj Institutions- health and environmental protection.
CSR restores traditional water structures like johads to revive degraded land, recharge groundwater, and improve soil fertility in climate-stressed Rajasthan. Through desilting, catchment treatment, and re-vegetation, barren commons become productive again. Women lead Village Water Committees, ensuring sustainable management of resources and transforming restoration into lasting ecological and community resilience.
Waliso Youth Development Association (WYDA) promotes land restoration and sustainable natural resource management in Oromia, Ethiopia. Through youth empowerment, community engagement, and bio-based solutions, WYDA implements degraded land rehabilitation, biodiversity conservation, agroforestry, and reduction of human–wildlife conflict, contributing to sustainable development and climate resilience.
PESAID supports elderly persons and persons with disabilities to adapt to climate change through kitchen gardening, beekeeping, tree planting, and mangrove restoration. We promote sustainable land management, food security, and community resilience by building local capacity and raising awareness on land use and environmental justice. Our work integrates social inclusion with climate-smart agriculture and biodiversity protection in Kenya.
Our foundation advances ecological restoration, sustainable land management, and community development. Activities include research in forestry, agriculture, and technology; forest and land rehabilitation; environmental conservation; nature-based tourism; education and training; and humanitarian support for vulnerable groups. We aim to strengthen resilience, restore ecosystems, and promote sustainable livelihoods in line with the UNCCD process.
Wildlife SOS, a leading wildlife conservation organization actively works towards combats land degradation through reforestation, ecosystem restoration, and community-led sustainable livelihoods. Our initiatives restore habitats, enhance soil and water conservation, strengthen climate resilience, empower local communities, promote biodiversity, and support capacity-building and research for long-term land sustainability.
