Hon. Alfred PROSPERE
Hon. Alfred Prospere is the Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries, Food Security and Rural Development in the Government of Saint Lucia. He is the current Parliamentary Representative for the constituency of Dennery South. Alfred Prospere’s love for nature as an environmentalist had him pursue his formal education in a series of disciplines including Agriculture and Forestry. He participated in many training programs throughout his work life and was therefore well schooled in a myriad of areas including Natural Resource Management. Mr. Prospere dedicated the last 34 years as a public servant in the Ministry of Agriculture. He is a trained Forester and served as Chief Forest Officer of the Division of Forest and Lands Resource Development. One of his many portfolios included being the National Focal Point (NFP) for the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD), where he represented Saint Lucia on regional and international levels. Under his leadership, Saint Lucia was one of the first islands in Latin America and Caribbean (LAC) to set their national targets for the Land Degradation Neutrality Target Setting Programme (LDN-TSP). He was the Director of several successful projects that dealt with sustainable livelihoods, inter alia.
