Gerald KAIRU
Gerald Kairu is multi-skilled professional with graduate training in environment/ natural resources management. He has over 15 years’ experience in the fields of climate change and drought risk management. A Ugandan national, Gerald has worked in private, public and NGO sectors. He has served in several capacities in drought related programmes and projects in Africa. First, he was regional Project Manager for the Integrated Drought Management Programme in the Horn of Africa, coordinating the programme in eight countries in the Intergovenmental Authority on Development (IGAD) Regional Economic Community. He served as a member of the Plan vivo Technical Advisory Group (UK) that reviews Project Design Documents and technical specifications for carbon Plan vivo projects and also worked as Technical Advisor for Climate Change/ Clean Development Mechanism with the Uganda Investment Authority. He is currently working as Regional Manager of the Africa Water Investment Programme (AIP)-Global Water Partnership Eastern Africa, co-ordinating the Water Climate Development and Gender programme and the regional drought Programme on Strengthening Drought Resilience for Smallholder Farmers and Pastoralists in the IGAD region. Gerald holds a MSc in Environment & Natural Resources Management, a BSc. in Forestry from Makerere University, Uganda, a post graduate Diploma in Monitoring and Evaluation from the Uganda Management Institute and a Diploma in Environmental Services in Forest Management from the University of Helsinki, Finland.
