Murat TÜRKEŞ
He graduated from Ankara University, Department of Physical Geography and Geology in 1981. He completed his master's degree in the same department and his doctorate in Istanbul University Institute of Marine Sciences and Geography, Department of Climatology and Meteorology. He received the title of Professor in Physical Geography in December 2007. After working for the General Directorate of Turkish Meteorological Service between December 1981 and May 2004 and at a university between May 2004 and February 2013 he retired. Since 2015, he has been working as an Executive Committee Member of the Bogazici University Center for Climate Change and Policy Studies and serving for the Department of Physics as a Part Time Faculty Member. His scientific and technical expertise and interest includes followings: Climate Change and Variability; Drought, Land Degradation and Desertification; Global Climatology and Climate Dynamics; Hydroclimatology; Paleoclimatology; Synoptic Meteorology/Climatology and Applications; Ecological Biogeography; Bioclimatology; Forest Fire Meteorology and Climatology; Natural Disasters and Disaster Risk Management, Vulnerability and Risk Analysis; Drought and Water Management; Food safety; Intergovernmental Climate and Environmental Diplomacy; Political Economy of Climate Change, etc. There are many articles, papers, books, and book chapters published in the country and abroad. For many years he has been a Lead Author, Contributing Author, Review Editor and Reviewer of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).
