Narine Hakobyan (Ms), Deputy head of department of Soil and Underground Resource Policy in the Ministry of Environment, Republic of Armenia. Main expertise - development, introduction and implementation of policies and strategies in the field of environmental protection, prevention and reduction of damages and loses, land management and land use through innovative, science based approaches 2) identification of soil contamination sources, study and monitoring of indicators to assess the negative impact on soil to assist the achievement of sustainable development goals and contribution to climate change adaptation and mitigation policies in line with country priorities. Ms. Hakobyan studied Engineering of Natural resources in Liege (Belgium) and holds a Master in Natural Resources (Yerevan State University, RA). Having a geological background, she is dealing with the management and monitoring of abandoned mining waste to reduce the soil contamination and reach soil rehabilitation and re-cultivation. As the National Focal Point for UNCCD, Ms. Hakobyan oversees the fulfillment of the Convention’s requirements, including the development of the National Action Program to combat land degradation and the National Reporting. She serves as the Annex V Chair and Bureau member (since COP 15).
