Ms Thizwilondi Suzan Rambau is the Director for Land Degradation and Desertification under the Ministry of   Forestry, Fisheries, and the Environment in South Africa. She also serves as a National Focal Point for the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD). Her primary role is to provide strategic leadership and policy direction on matters relating to combating Desertification, Land Degradation and minimizing the effects of Drought in the Ministry. This includes overall coordination and implementation of the UNCCD programme of work at all levels. She is also tasked with the sectorial mobilization of financial resources to support the implementation of projects and programmes aimed at addressing DLDD. Under her leadership, South Africa plays a present and meaningful role on many DLDD engagements both at national, subregional, regional, and international platforms. Her current portfolio of responsibilities includes coordinating the implementation of the National Action Programme for combating DLDD and ensuring that South Africa achieves the Land Degradation Neutrality (LDN) Targets by 2030. She is also driving the participation of South Africa on several sustainable land management initiatives and programmes.
