Work experience
My research activities, conducted mainly as the project leader or participant, were concentrated mostly on the plantation silviculture in arid, sub-arid and dry sub-humid zones of China, environmental stress physiology, especially water relation and drought tolerance of tree species, and urban forestry. From 1991 to 1998, I was in charge of three scientific research projects supported by National Natural Science Foundation of China and Municipal Natural Science Foundation of Beijing and a key scientific project in the state's eighth five-year plan. I have made further study of the classification models and mechanisms of drought tolerance of more than 30 chief tree species in northern parts of China. In 1995-1996, I studied, as a post-doctoral fellow at Faculty of Forestry, University of Toronto, Canada, effects of repeated drought stress on cell water relations and plant hardening in conifers. Only recently, since 1996, I have been engaged in studying on sustainable development of
