Work experience
Being one of the Chinese scientists who initiated biodiversity research in China, Ma contributes a lot to Chinese biodiversity conservation. He initiated the establishment of Chinese Forest Biodiversity Monitoring Network and organized 8 national symposia on biodiversity conservation and sustainable use together with Ministry of Environment Protection, State Forestry Administration, Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Education, WWF and TNC. Ma attended most of the meetings of conference of parties (COP) to Convention on Biological Diversity and its related extro-COPs and working group meetings on thematic issues as a scientific advisor to Chinese delegation. He also participated in evaluations on many nature reserves and landscapes in China and gave lectures and conservation advices to nature reserve managers. _x000D_
Ma is known in the field of biodiversity research and conservation internationally. He is member of Executive Committee of IMoSEB (International Mechanism of Scientific Expertise on Biodiversity), and co-chaired the Asian consultation meeting, member of the GTI Coordination Mechanism, among other activities and made important contribution to the development of a new mechanism. He is also an active collaborator with a number of international organizations or programmes, such as Diversitas, GIBF, Species 2000, TNC, WWF and IUCN.
