Work experience
I am the leader and manager of a unit called Climate Change Research and Advice in the Department of Water and Sanitation. The unit of composed of composed of eight staff members of which five are highly specialized scientists. Our daily work in the water sector revolves translating climate science into understandable information and trying to understand how climate change is impacting and will impact on the water resources of South Africa. We do this work using regionally downscaled climate models in each of the water management areas / catchments then develop easy readable and understandable reports that focus on defining anticipated impacts and suggesting required adaptation measures. Some of the projects and documents we have developed include amongst others:- The Climate Change Status Quo Analysis for
Water Resources, The Climate Change Response Strategy for the Water Sector, Risk and Vulnerability Assessments (RVAs) for the various catchments in South Africa, A Methodology for Conducting RVAs for the nine Water Management Areas of South Africa (which is meant to assist other water agencies to do their own assessments). The projects about involve very intensive fieldwork, especially the RVAs and there
has to be consultations with the different water users in the different catchments.

PhD: - UNIVERSITY OF THE WITWATERSRAND, JOHANNESBURG, 2006-2011.
Thesis Title:- Sustainable Development, Disaster-Risk Reduction and Governance: Assessing Climate Change Adaptation Challenges Facing South Africa.
Main course of study: Climate change and climate change adaptation, Droughts and drought management; proactive versus reactive disaster risk reduction actions, costing of drought impacts and the role of governance, particularly trying to determine what is proper co-operative governance for drought management.
MSc: - UNIVERSITY OF THE WITWATERSRAND, JOHANNESBURG, 2000-2001.
Thesis Title: - The Physical And Human Dimensions Of Flood-Risk: The Case Of The West Bank, Alexandra Township.
Main course of study: Natural hazards and natural disasters, with a specific focus on floods, particularly in the context of climate change where natural hazard are going to increase in frequency and magnitude and where risk is likely to increase and vulnerability to natural hazards is likely to be exposed and heightened.
