Abdul Hamid is serving as Director General, Department of Environment under the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change of Bangladesh. He is a civil servant of the country with working experience of about 30 years in various positions of government service throughout the country. Graduated from Bangladesh Agricultural University with major in Agriculture followed by Masters in Agronomy, Dr. Hamid obtained another Masters in the field of Environmental Studies from the University of Newcastle, Australia.

Wetland ecology was the major project work of this program. To his credit, he was conferred PhD on Environmental Management from the Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), Malaysia where he conducted extensive field research on the non-point source (NPS) pollutant loading from storm water generated from a forested catchment in Malaysia during storm events. Water samples derived from catchment’s surface runoff/flushing were collected from a river to calculate Event Mean Concentration (EMC) and to understand flushing behavior of selected NPS pollutants which were published in his PhD thesis. A blend of research and administrative background made Dr. Abdul Hamid a unique and uncommon personality.

In the course of his service, Dr. Hamid attended considerable professional trainings in overseas countries like USA, China, Canada, India, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Vietnam, Ivory Coast, Dubai, Thailand, Maldives, Singapore, etc. He is conversant to the concept of sustainable land management (SLM) practices. As part of alignment with the UNCCD initiatives, the Department of Environment, Bangladesh has carried out a SLM project aiming to achieve LDN targets.
