Dr. Ahmed Abdelati Ahmed is a Professor of Agronomy and Head of the Plant Production Department of Ecology and Dry lands Agriculture at the Desert Research Center. He was nominated by Egypt to serve as the principal Science & Technology Correspondent (STC) for the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD). Ahmed is the head of the Scientific Committee in Egypt and the Arab Team, following closely the implementation of the UNCCD and CBD for Egypt and the League of Arab States.

He was appointed as the Egyptian National Consultant to the UNCCD Inter-working Group (IWG) on Drought. Ahmed is also the Focal Point of the Global Bioenergy Partnership (GBEP) as Co-Chair of the Taskforce for Sustainability. Since his employment at the Desert Research Center in 1989, he has been working in the field of sustainable development of desert research in Egypt, sharing knowledge in different projects at National and International levels, and he is also supervising MSC and PhD students in this field. Since 2003, he has been involved in the implementation of the UNCCD in Egypt, starting as a member & rapporteur of the Scientific Committee of CCD in Egypt.

In 2008 he was seconded to the EEAA- Ministry of State for Environmental Affairs as a consultant for land and Afforestation from 2008-2013. At COP15 in Abidjan, he was elected vice-chair and rapporteur in the Bureau of the Committee on Science and Technology (CST) representing Africa Group for the triennium 2022-2024 and was also entrusted to facilitate the COP15 working group on other matters for the Committee of Whole (COW). Ahmed holds an MSc and PhD degree in Agronomy from the Ain Shames University of Cairo, Egypt.
