Alisher Mirzabaev

Dr. Alisher Mirzabaev is a Senior Scientist in Policy Analysis/Climate Change at the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI), headquartered in Los Baños, Philippines. Before joining IRRI, he served as Interim Chair and Professor of the Production Economics Group, Institute for Food and Resource Economics (ILR) at the University of Bonn, Germany. Dr. Mirzabaev was a lead researcher in several international projects with both global and regional focus on Africa and Asia. He has authored more than 100 scientific publications on the economics of land degradation and ecosystem restoration, climate change impacts and adaptation, and the water-energy-food security nexus. 

Many of these publications are having a strong policy influence particularly in land management and climate action. He was a Coordinating Lead Author (CLA) of Desertification chapter in the IPCC Special report on Climate change and Land (2019). He co-authored publications collaborating with the UNCCD’s Science Policy Interface, such as the Land-Drought Nexus Report of 2019.
