Arona Diedhiou
Arona Diedhiou is Director of Research at the Institute of Research for Development (IRD; Institute of Environmental Geosciences, IGE - University Grenoble Alpes). He is hosted at the University Felix Houphouët Boigny University (Abidjan, Ivory Coast) as co-director of the International Joint Laboratory on NEXUS between climate, water, agriculture and energy (Climate Nexus Lab.). Dr. Arona Diedhiou is a specialist of the African climate system and climate change in the tropics. He works in the framework of several international programs on implications of climate, land use and land cover changes in Africa and on the climate - water - agriculture and energy nexus.
Arona Diedhiou was Lead Author of the IPCC Special Report on the incidences of 1.5° global warming, and Reviewer-Editor in the last IPCC Assessment Report (WG1/AR6). Since 2019, he is the President of the Scientific Advisory Panel of the One Planet Fellowship, a program initiated by African Women in Agricultural Research and Development (AWARD) and Agropolis Fondation to support 600 young Africans and Europeans in research projects on climate change adaptation in Africa, with a special focus on small-scale agriculture and gender. He was also Chairman of the Scientific and Advisory Committee of WASCAL (www.wascal.org), a German government initiative in West Africa on climate services and adapted land use in the context of climate change, and a member of the Independent Scientific Committee of the CGIAR Research Program on Climate Change, Agriculture and Food Security (CCCAFS).
