Chay Asdak

Prof. Chay Asdak has extensive research and teaching experience in hydrology and watershed management, water resources management and environmental risk and impact assessment. He has published technical and scientific papers on these subjects and authored three textbooks: Hydrology and the Management of Watershed (Indonesian, Gadjah Mada University Press, 8th edition 2022), Strategic Environmental Assessment: A Road to Sustainable Development(Indonesian, Gadjah Mada University Press, 4th edition 2018) and The Management of Land and Water Resources(Indonesian, Bogor Institute of Agriculture Press, 2025). He also contributed a book chapter Reorientation of Development Paradigm (Indonesian, Universitas Padjadjaran Press, 2011) and served as chief editor of the 2024 volume Toward a Golden Indonesia published by Gadjah Mada University Press.

His professional experience includes postdoctoral work on modeling studies at the Institute of Ecology and Resource Management, University of Edinburgh, UK (1998), lecturer at the University of Tokyo on Tropical Watershed Management (2005), guest lecturer at the University of Twente’s Master Program on Energy and Environmental Management in the Netherlands (2010) and participation in the Academic Recharge Program at the Department of Forest Resources, University of Minnesota, USA (2010–2011).

In December 2024 during the UNCCD COP event in Riyadh he was appointed Vice Chair of the Committee for Science and Technology of UNCCD COP17 to be held in Mongolia. In 2025 he was also appointed Regional Representative of the Intergovernmental Working Group on the Future Strategic Framework of the UNCCD.
