Katrin Ehlert

Katrin Ehlert is an environmental scientist and currently a Junior Professional Officer at the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) in Geneva. She holds a diploma in Geo-ecology from TU Braunschweig and a PhD in soil chemistry from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich (ETHZ). She has more than 8 years research and consultancy experience in the field of soil protection in the context of agricultural usages, soil and water quality assessments and environmental impact studies.  At WMO she works on agricultural meteorology related topics to support national meteorological and hydrological services and provides technical and scientific support to the WMO Service Commission’s Standing Committee on Agriculture.

In addition, she is WMO focal point for contributions to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) agenda and to the Global Framework on Climate Smart Agriculture (GACSA). Katrin is part of the Integrated Drought Management Programme (IDMP) technical support unit (www.droughtmanagement.info). The IDMP is a WMO and Global Water Partnership led programme which, together with a wide range of partners such as FAO, UNCCD, UNDRR and UNDP, supports stakeholders globally and on all levels to develop drought early warning systems and drought policies.
