Nicholas Webb is a Research Physical Scientist with the USDA Agricultural Research Service (USDA-ARS) Range Management Research Unit, based at the Jornada Experimental Range in south-central New Mexico on the US-Mexican border. His research cuts across themes of desertification, wind erosion and sand and dust storms (SDS), and integrating decision-support tools with monitoring approaches to inform adaptive land management.

In his research program, Webb coordinates the National Wind Erosion Research Network and co-leads the Landscape Data Commons – an effort to harmonize and link rangeland monitoring datasets with digital technologies to enable data-informed understanding of rangeland ecological dynamics, soil erosion, and management. He also leads the Agroecosystem Erosion Working Group of the USDA Long-Term Agroecosystem Research (LTAR) Network. Nick’s field research and modelling projects encompass drylands of the western USA, and he has experience working in the Botswana Kgalagadi District and Australian deserts and tropical savannas.
