Suneetha M Subramanian has over 20 years of experience in international and sub-national research and capacity building activities relating to:  biodiversity, environment, human well-being and sustainability, with a specific focus on cross-sectoral issues of equity, traditional knowledge, linking policy goals to local priorities, community well-being, assessment of changes to ecosystems and human wellbeing, developing indicators to capture changes to socio-ecological resilience, health and biodiversity, and advocating for integrated landscape approaches toward policy coherence and concerted implementation across different sectors and stakeholder priorities.  

She has worked closely with intergovernmental bodies such as the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), IPBES Secretariat, ASEAN Centre for Biodiversity, HAC for Nature and People Secretariat on the related themes, and  successfully co-ordinated several multi partner projects and platforms with partners such as UNEP, CBD, ACB, APN, ITTO,  GIZ and others with a focus on implementation nuances.

She also has contributed to the facilitation of stakeholder meetings for intergovernmental agencies — including facilitating consultative meetings for the Global Biodiversity Framework development led by the CBD. She has served as co-ordinating lead author for the IPBES values and global assessments, and as a lead author for IPBES Asia-Pacific Regional Assessment. More recently, she has been actively advocating how policy coherence can be motivated and enabled in practice.
