Svitlana Krakovska

Dr. Krakovska is the head of the laboratory of applied climatology at the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Institute of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine and the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. Since 2024, she has been a member of the Taskforce Expert Group on Net Zero, and in 2025, was elected to the U.S. National Academy of Sciences as an international member.

Dr. Svitlana Krakovska holds a PhD in Geophysics and has more than 30 years of experience in meteorology, cloud and climate models, climate change mitigation and adaptation in all environmental sectors, particularly in Ukraine, but also regionally and globally. She has served as Vice National Focal Point of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) to Ukraine since 2013. In the 6th Assessment Cycle of the IPCC, she was a Review Editor of the Special Report on Global Warming 1.5oC, Contributing Author to Summary for Policymakers IPCC WGI AR6, Leading Author of the Technical Summary, Chapter Atlas and Interactive Atlas of IPCC WGI AR6. In Feb 2021, by decree of the President of Ukraine, Dr Krakovska received the state award of the Order of Princess Olga of Third Class for her contribution to scientific activities in Antarctica and on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the Ukrainian Antarctic Station "Akademik Vernadsky" (former British Faraday) where she overwintered in 1997/98.
