Work experience
I am working on agriculture, food security and rural development since about 30 years, mostly in and on SSA (in more than 15 countries over the years) but also other continents.
Experiences are a mixed of empirical local studies at farm household level, (sub)sectors such as bioenergy or cotton, national and regional/continental policy analysis such as CAADP or drought policies. As a member of D.I.E., we deliver continuous and special (through funded research projects) policy advise to the German Federal Ministry for Economic Development and Cooperation, the implementing agencies and the broader developing communities, including in partner countries. Since about 5 years, I have delved into drought policies, in cooperation with several academic and policy-oriented organizations and persons (UNCCD, GIZ/KfW,, Universities, etc.) mostly at the conceptual level, but with high attention to impacts at local level. In summary, I consider myself a generalist of rural development in SSA, which I see as an advantage for many aspects of UNCCD's on desertification, land degradation, and drought.
Geographic area(s) of field of experience (countries/regions): Sub-Saharan Africa
