Small Island Developing States (SIDS) are a diverse group of countries that boast some of the world’s most extraordinary natural assets, cultural heritage and traditional ecological knowledge, which form the basis of their long-term sustainable development. Comprising 39 states and 18 territories, SIDS are home to around 74 million people in the Caribbean, Pacific, Atlantic and Indian Oceans, as well as the South China Sea. These states and territories are custodians of unique and valuable natural capital on land and at sea.
