Work experience
Dr. Malik is a microbiologist with more than 26 years post-doctoral research experience in agricultural and industrial microbiology and biotechnology. His earlier research related to microbial conversion of cellulose and later on of lignocellulosic substrates. Subsequently he developed interest in plant-microbial interactions especially with nitrogen fixing microbes associated with legumes and cereals growing in saline soils. Several prestigeous research grants were awarded to carry out these researches. Similarly the pioneering work done on biotechnological approaches for economic utilization of saline soil and related work on understanding the molecular mechanism of osmoregulations in prokaryotic and eukaryotic systems own him the Presidential Medal of Distinction in Science in 1988. Dr. Malik has undertaken several expert assignments in various developing countries namely Algeria, Bangladesh, Iran, Malaysia, Senegal, Sri Lanka and Turkey. He has also been a member of the evalu
