Work experience
The knowledge I have generated on the ecology and managmeent of Nothofagus forests in Southern Patagonia (more than 2 millions hectares) is my most significant contribution to the field. More than 25 different timber industries have improved their silviculture practices from the information I have generated. The windbreak design created from the research programme carried out under my direction has been adopted over the lenghth and breadth of Patagonia. My scientific research is of the highest calibre and has been published in leading inernational journals. Of particular relevance to this project is the experience I have in modelling growth of pasture and how this is afected by many interacting abiotic factors. Furthermore, in recent years a significant component of my research has centred on the compilation of a carbon inventory data set for Patagonia that contains detailed nutrient budgets. Also I have been working with international researcher teams in some Projects such as I. Modelling the specific leaf area of the Eucalyptus and Nothofagus genera across a range of environmental variables with the school of Biological, Earth and Environmental Sciences, Faculty of Science, The Univeristy of New South Wales, Australia; 2. Latitudinal gradients in biotic processes affecting plant growth and establishment with Macquarie University (Australia), Australian National University (Australia) and University of Utah (USA) 3. Osmotic adaptations of Nothofagus pumilio and Nothofagus antarctica in response to drought stress in Southern Patagonia with the School fo Forest and Ecosystem Science, University of Melbourne, Australia.
