Work experience
Project leader of several projects of anthropological, geographical and environmental studies on shifting cultivators in Southwestern Ethiopia, subsidized by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology; Mitsubishi Foundation, Sumitomo Foundation, Fukutake Science and Culture Foundation; Japan Geographic Data Center (1998-present). These projects include studies on human-environment interactions in Ethiopian forest and savanna; relationship between warfare and environment; fertility-mortality dynamics of local population. Also conducted various investigations as a member of other projects on Ethiopian studies. Recently also engaged in investigation on land use dynamics as well as economic change of peasant societies in Loess Plateau areas (China), as a project leader subsidized by the Center of Arid Studies, Tottori University (2005-2007).
