Prof. Dr. Ahmed ABDELATI AHMED graduated from the Faculty of Agriculture – at Ain Shames Univ. Cairo - Egypt in 1988 (Agronomy) and got his MSc and Ph.D. from the same Faculty in 1995 and 1999 respectively. He is a Professor of Agronomy and Head of the Plant Production Dept., Ecology and Dry lands Agriculture Division- Desert Research Center. Since he was employed at Desert Research Center in 1989, he has continuously worked on sustainable development of deserts in Egypt, on different projects at national and international levels, and supervising many MSC and Ph.D. students. Since 2003, he has served the UNCCD National Coordination and Scientific Committees in Egypt in different roles; currently as the head of the Scientific Committee.
Ahmed is the Operational Focal Point & Science Technology Correspondent of UNCCD in Egypt. He leads the Arab Team following the UNCCD and CBD, and the STCs for the African Group in UNCCD. He is also the Focal Point of the Global Bioenergy Partnership (GBEP) and the Co-Chair of the Task Force for Sustainability. At COP 15, he chaired negotiations under the Committee of the Whole and was nominated as one of the one of the Vice Chairs and Rapporteur in the UNCCD CST Bureau.
