From Geneva to Riyadh and beyond: Enhancing global and national policy instruments for a proactive drought management approach
The ministerial dialogues will highlight the urgent need for innovative approaches to address the systemic impacts of drought. With drought increasingly destabilizing ecosystems, economies, and communities—particularly the poorest—this dialogue focuses on strengthening preparedness and resilience at all levels.
Key focus areas include:
- Proactive drought management: Scaling up good practices and policy instruments, including national drought plans and integrated management strategies
- Institutional and financial enablers: Establishing effective governance structures and mobilizing adequate financial resources for resilience-building efforts
- Risk-informed and inclusive approaches: Developing strategies that integrate land and water management, address transboundary impacts and are gender-responsive
The dialogue aims to explore:
- Good practices and key enablers: Identifying successful actions for national and regional resilience-building
- Global ecosystem enhancement: Examining political, technical, and financial conditions necessary for strengthening drought resilience globally
This session will provide ministers and stakeholders with an opportunity to align on actions that will drive ambitious commitments under the UNCCD process, paving the way for more robust and collaborative drought management strategies.
