There are diverse categories of participants at the UNCCD conferences: representatives of the Convention's 197 Parties, members of officially accredited observer organizations and representatives of the press and media. 

Ahead of the COP, Parties to the Convention and accredited organizations will receive an official invitation to attend the conference and nominate their representatives to take part in the COP17. You can find detailed information on registration, visa requirements and accommodations here.

Observer organizations include the UN and international organizations, the non-government and civil society organizations, and business entities. Accredited observers are invited to attend and deliver statements at official meetings and negotiations in the Blue Zone during the COP. Observers need to be accredited to the UNCCD in accordance with these guidelines. You can find the list of accredited organizations here

Accreditation process for COP17 has been closed. Submissions received after 4th of May 2026 will be considered for COP18. You can find accreditation guidelines here.

Side events organized within the sidelines of the official sessions of the Conference of the Parties (COP) and/or its subsidiary bodies convened by the UNCCD provide an informal opportunity for Parties and accredited observer organizations to exchange information and experiences on diverse issues related to the objectives of the Convention. The COP Green Zone represents a public space that invites visitors to network while exploring land-related exhibitions on innovative technologies, restoration initiatives and inclusive activities for all segments of society.
