Food Systems and Soil Health Day

By 2050, the world will need to produce at least 50 per cent more food and will require the restoration of agricultural lands and the preservation of soil health at unprecedented scale.

Food Systems and Soil Health Day will connect soil restoration to food security, agricultural productivity and the livelihoods of farming communities. The Day will pursue the following objectives: advancing political commitment to soil health, mobilizing investment for sustainable food systems, placing people at the center of land stewardship, and strengthening knowledge-sharing and policy coherence across the Rio Conventions.

The program includes: 

• Special High-Level Ministerial Event on food systems and soil health
• Living soils, productive lands: From policies to implementation
• Global flagship initiative for food security.
• Repurposing public support for food system transformation
• Private sector and investment partners roundtable
• Agroecology in principles, policy and practice
• Youth4Soil Manifesto
• Celebration of International Year of Women Farmers

These events are expected to elevate soil health as a pillar of resilient and sustainable food systems, support better assessment and monitoring of soil health, position soil as a productive and economic asset, showcase inclusive and profitable value-chain models for smallholder farmers and mark the International Year of the Woman Farmer.
